We live in a time of excess...

Vehicles dominate the planning strategies in most municipal and district government offices. Neighbourly contact is almost non-existent. Our children no longer play together and our streets sit mostly empty while we retreat to our backyards behind ever-taller fences.

Many people long for a deeper sense of community similar to what they experienced growing up in small towns or in lively and walkable urban neighbourhoods.

Dissident Development’s guiding purpose is to connect people like you with others who feel the same longing for connection and community.

We co-create neighbourhoods + homes that foster a strong sense of place and connection through small, close-knit communities.

This is a type of planned community where homes aren’t grouped around a maze of roads and garages but are instead clustered around a shared common area that fosters social activities and connections. There can be courtyards, community gardens, and landscaped pathways.

The simple idea behind our vision of “pocket neighborhoods”, as coined by architect Ross Chapin, is that rethinking smarter housing developments brings our communities and neighbourhoods closer together.

Through thoughtful design, neighbourhood residents are naturally involved and included, helping each other out while socializing on their front porches, tending to communal gardens, and strolling shared paths. All while you maintain the privacy of your own home.

This could be a good time! There is a river flowing now very fast. It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid. They will try to hold on to the shore. They will feel they are being torn apart and will suffer greatly. Know the river has its destination. The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above the water.

See who is in there with you and celebrate. At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally, least of all ourselves. For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey come to a halt.

The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves! Banish the word ’struggle’ from your attitude and your vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.
